Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc is considering a return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) after an absence of eight years. His motivation behind this decision is to gear up in the T20 format ahead of the World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and the United States in June.
Eyeing a Comeback
Starc, who has played 27 IPL matches, aiming for a comeback to the league where he has taken 34 wickets at an average of 20.38 and an economy rate of 7.17. Expressing his intentions, Starc highlighted IPL as a crucial lead-up event to the T20 World Cup, emphasizing its significance in his preparations.
Past Stints and Future Plans
Having initially been picked by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in 2014 for INR 5 crore, Starc’s IPL journey has been punctuated by injuries and international commitments. Despite being bought by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for INR 9.40 crore in 2018, Starc had to miss the season due to an injury. Since 2020, he has been absent from the T20 League, prioritizing his ambition to play 100 Test matches for Australia.
