Tata Motors has officially unveiled its newest electric SUV, the Tata Punch EV, in India, starting at ₹10.99 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory). The Punch EV lineup includes four variants: Smart, Adventure, Empowered, and Empowered+, with the highest-tier variant priced at ₹14.49 lakh (ex-showroom, introductory). Enthusiasts keen on acquiring the Punch EV can secure their bookings via Tata’s dedicated EV-only dealerships or the official website, making a token payment of ₹21,000. Deliveries are scheduled to commence next month.

This signifies Tata Motors’ fourth foray into electric vehicles, with the Punch EV being particularly noteworthy as the second model offered in internal combustion engine (ICE), compressed natural gas (CNG), and fully-electric variants. Following the Tigor, the Punch EV stands as Tata’s second SUV to integrate electric power.

The Punch EV comes equipped with specifications that leverage Tata’s latest Gen-2 Pure EV platform, known as Acti.EV. This platform, crafted from high-strength materials to prioritize safety, preserves the SUV’s ground clearance at 190 mm and maintains its ramp-over angles. While the dimensions of the SUV remain consistent with its internal combustion engine (ICE) or compressed natural gas (CNG) counterparts, it now boasts a design reminiscent of the Nexon EV facelift. This design features LED daytime running lights, sleek LED headlights, a closed grille, and fresh 16-inch alloy designs.

An exclusive feature of the Punch EV is its “frunk,” offering an additional 14 liters of storage space beneath the bonnet, complementing the standard 366-liter boot capacity. The Punch EV stands out as the first Indian electric car to incorporate a frunk.

Tata Motors has priced the Punch EV variants as follows:

  • Punch EV Smart: ₹10.99 lakh
  • Punch EV Smart+: ₹11.49 lakh
  • Punch EV Adventure: ₹11.99 lakh
  • Punch EV Empowered: ₹12.79 lakh
  • Punch EV Empowered+: ₹13.29 lakh
  • Punch EV LR Adventure: ₹12.99 lakh
  • Punch EV LP Empowered: ₹13.99 lakh
  • Punch EV LR Empowered+: ₹14.49 lakh

Concerning battery and range, Tata offers the Punch EV with mid-range and long-range battery packs, boasting capacities of 25kWh and 35kWh, respectively. These batteries, tailored for the Gen-2 Pure EV platform, enhance the EV’s range by approximately 10%.

Tata asserts that the mid-range variant can achieve up to 315 km on a single charge, while the long-range variant can cover up to 421 km without recharging. The Punch EV supports two charging options, including a 7.2 kW fast home charger, and can charge from 10% to 80% in under an hour using 50 kW DC fast chargers.

In terms of performance, the long-range Punch EV variant has a more powerful output of 120 bhp and 190 Nm of torque, while the mid-range Punch EV type has 80 bhp of power and 114 Nm of peak torque. The electric SUV has a top speed of 140 kmph and can accelerate from 0 to 100 kmph in 9.5 seconds.

A 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, air purification, leatherette seats, front-row seat ventilation, and a digital instrument cluster are just a few of the many goodies that come standard with the Punch EV. In addition, there is a 360-degree camera, blind spot monitoring, wireless charging, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and six airbags as standard safety equipment.
