Sandeep Lamichhane is not allowed to play cricket anymore. This decision came after a court said he did something wrong and gave him an 8 year prison sentence. The Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) stopped him from playing in any cricket games, both in Nepal and other countries. The court also told him to pay a fine of Rs 3,00,000 and give Rs 2,00,000 to the person he hurt.
Lamichhane’s lawyer, Saroj Ghimire, said in the news that Lamichhane is going to ask a higher court to look at the decision again.
In September last year, the police in Kathmandu said Lamichhane did something wrong and issued an arrest warrant. At that time, Lamichhane was playing cricket in the Caribbean Premier League for Jamaica Tallawahs. The team let him go immediately, and he went back to Nepal where he was arrested. Lamichhane said the accusations were part of a plan to harm him.
Back then, the Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) also stopped him from playing, but they let him play again in February 2023 when he came back to the national team.
