Famous news anchor and journalist Sudhir Chaudhary is in the news these days. For the last 24 hours, there is a demand for the arrest of Sudhir Chaudhary on social media.
A tribal group has filed a police complaint under the Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe Act over remarks made by Sudhir Chaudhary on air following the arrest of former Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren by the ED. After which the hashtag #ArrestSudhirChaudhry is top trending on Twitter.
Sudhir Chaudhary’s comments against Heman Soren came after he resigned. In the show aired on January 31 (Wednesday), Sudhir Chaudhary had made casteist remarks against the tribal community. After which a complaint has been lodged against Sudhir Chaudhary and a demand was made to arrest him immediately.
However, after the controversy escalated, Sudhir Chaudhary has now apologized for his tribal remarks on Saturday (03 February). Sudhir Chaudhary wrote in the share notes along with the tweet, “I am receiving hateful messages on social media regarding the baseless allegation of insulting the tribals. This has caused me great sorrow and pain. Criticizing Hemant Soren cannot be considered as criticism or insult to the tribals. My show focused on how tribal votes are being misused by rich leaders.
He further said, “A short video clip is being shared continuously which neither conveys my full message nor the correct context. An attempt is being made to spread confusion through this video. I have not used any derogatory word for tribals, nor have I ever used it before. I have always supported and respected the tribals and they have also always shown great love and affection towards me and my TV programmes. I can’t even imagine insulting him.” Sudhir Chaudhary wrote in the end, “I am not answerable to every person active on social media, but I feel that it is my duty to explain my point to my tribal brothers and sisters. If I have inadvertently hurt the sentiments of my tribal brothers and sisters, I apologize to them unconditionally.”
