Chennai witnessed a vibrant celebration of young athletes and Olympic dreams as Prime Minister Narendra Modi declared the Khelo India Youth Games open on Friday!

Welcoming the participants, PM Modi praised their spirit, calling them the embodiment of “Ek Bharat Shrestha Bharat.” He emphasized the Games’ significance, stating, “For Indian sports, this is a great way to kick off 2024.”

Lighting the traditional torch, Modi set hearts ablaze with his ambitious vision for the future. He announced the government’s aspiration to host both the 2029 Youth Olympics and the 2036 Olympic Games on Indian soil. The estimated growth of the Indian sports industry to a whopping ₹1 lakh crore in the coming years further fueled the excitement.

Modi also praised Tamil Nadu’s warm hospitality, promising it would win everyone’s hearts. He expressed confidence that the Games would not only be a platform for showcasing athletic talent but also forging lifelong friendships.

Adding to the festive spirit, PM Modi launched ‘DD Tamil,’ the revamped version of the regional language Doordarshan channel DD Podhigai. This move strengthens the government’s commitment to promoting regional languages and cultural diversity.
