The celebration of Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti, also known as the Prakash Parv of the tenth Sikh Guru, is set to take place on January 17 this year, marking the 357th birth anniversary of the final personal Guru of Sikhism. Born on December 2, 1666, in Patna, Bihar, Guru Gobind Singh Ji was the son of Guru Tegh Bahadur (the 9th Guru) and Mata Gujri.
Following his father’s martyrdom in 1676, he was declared the tenth Guru of Sikhs at the age of 9 during Baisakhi. His birthplace in Patna, now renowned as Takhat Shri Harimander Ji Patna Sahib, is a significant historical site.
Guru Gobind Singh was a visionary leader, contributing to Sikhism by codifying Sikh law, composing martial poetry and music, and compiling the holy scripture of Sikhism, the Guru Granth Sahib. Before his passing in 1708, he declared himself the last personal Guru, emphasizing Guru Granth Sahib as the enduring spiritual guide for Sikhs.
